201 - Recurring Central Giant Cell Granuloma in a Seven-Year-Old

Abstract:

Introduction: Central giant cell granuloma (CGCG) is a benign lesion of the jawbone, typically characterized by fibrous tissue, multinucleated giant cells, and hemorrhage. It is divided into two separate types: an asymptomatic, non-aggressive lesion and an aggressive lesion with a high recurrence rate. Amongst all benign tumors of the mouth, CGCG accounts for 7% of these lesions with a higher prevalence amongst females.




Case Report: This case report is of a seven-year-old male who presented to the emergency department with clinical evidence of facial cellulitis. His medical history was unremarkable. However, after two days of IV Unasyn with no improvement in facial swelling and further investigation regarding the patient's past dental history, our findings concluded that our patient had a form of aggressive central giant cell granuloma with recurrent lesions. The treatment goal is to completely enucleate the lesion, while carefully removing all fibrous tissue to minimize risk of recurrence.
