Amber Were, DDS, is the Chief Resident of the Pediatric Dental Residency program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Dr. Were earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Meharry Medical College in 2021. Following graduation, she gained valuable clinical experience as a general dentist in a pediatric-focused private practice in Atlanta, before pursuing her specialty training.
Throughout her residency at UAB, Dr. Were has demonstrated a commitment to clinical excellence and leadership. As Chief Resident, she plays a vital role in coordinating clinical operations, mentoring fellow residents, and fostering collaboration between the pediatric department and other dental specialties.
Dr. Were is passionate about dental education and community outreach. She has contributed significantly to scholarly activities, including presentations at the UAB Scholar’s Symposium and the Alabama Oral Health Coalition meeting held at the Alabama Department of Public Health in February 2026. Upon completion of her residency in June 2026, she intends to continue her work in pediatric oral health, with long-term goals that include private practice ownership and contributing to the education of future dental professionals.
