Pamela Nguyen Murphy, DMD, MPH, developed her interdisciplinary dental philosophy at Gustavus Adolphus College, where she obtained her B.A. in Chemistry and French. Her senior dissertation on the public health infrastructure in Sénégal led to an invitation to continue research in Dakar. She obtained her Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from the Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health (ASDOH) where her dental student externships in health professions shortage areas (HPSAs) in Maine, Texas, Missouri, Colorado, and Arizona culminated in serving in the National Health Service Corps as a general dentist at federally-qualified health centers (FQHCs) in rural communities for almost a decade.
Her adjunct faculty partnerships with ASDOH, MOSDOH, and University of Iowa for their dental externships contributed to her deepening enthusiasm for patient-centered care and continuing education. In 2023, Pamela obtained a Master of Public Health-Dental Emphasis from ATSU, graduated summa cum laude, was inducted into the Delta Omega Honorary Society, and received the ATSU Diversity Excellence Award. She is involved in American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry-Resident Committee and is a multiple marathoner for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Heroes. Pamela’s belief that integration with leading academic health systems is crucial to deliver the best outcomes in patient care and advance health policy in communities led her to pursue specialty training with NYU Langone Health.
