Maria Elena Davila de González, DDS, MPH, DrPH, is a Venezuelan-trained dentist who completed her dental degree in Venezuela before relocating to the United States to pursue advanced graduate studies. She earned both her Master of Public Health (MPH) and Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) degrees at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where she focused on community health and population-based approaches to oral health.
Following her doctoral training, Dr. Davila de González completed her residency at the University of New York (UNY) in partnership with the New York City Department of Health, under the mentorship of Dr. Jay Kumar. This experience strengthened her expertise in public health dentistry, epidemiology, and clinical practice.
After completing her residency, she returned to Venezuela, where she dedicated her expertise in public health and biostatistics to teaching at the Universidad Centro-Occidental School of Medicine. There, she educated both undergraduate and graduate students, contributing to the development of future healthcare professionals.
Upon retirement, Dr. Davila de González was invited by Dr. Scott Tomar to join the University of Florida’s Community Outreach Program in Naples, Florida. Since 2014, she has dedicated her career to improving oral health outcomes in the United States, working as an educator, community health advocate, and mentor. In Naples, she has supported pediatric dentists in delivering compassionate, evidence-based care and has played a key role in strengthening community-based oral health initiatives.
Her professional interests include pediatric oral health, community dentistry, public health education, and the integration of epidemiology and biostatistics into dental practice.
