380 - Knowledge Retention with Video Modules Versus Lectures in Dental Education

Abstract:

Purpose:
The purpose of this educational study was to compare the effectiveness of traditional lecture-based instruction and short video-based instruction on dental students’ understanding of space maintainers.

Methods:
This study evaluated third-year dental students enrolled in a pediatric dentistry course who received instruction on space maintainers through either a traditional lecture format or a series of short instructional videos. Knowledge acquisition was assessed by post-instruction quiz scores collected as part of the course curriculum. Statistical significance will be evaluated using the independent-samples t-test or the Mann-Whitney U test, depending on the assumption of normality, which will be assessed via the Shapiro-Wilk test. The significance level will be set at 0.05. SPSS 30 (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY, USA) will be used in the analysis.
