Joshua P. Tankel, DMD, MPH is a first-year Pediatric Dental Resident at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine in Newark, New Jersey. Dr. Tankel graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2021 with a Bachelor of Science in Public Health. He later graduated from the Woody L. Hunt School of Dental Medicine in El Paso in 2025 with a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree, along with a Master of Public Health degree from University of Texas Health Sciences Center at Houston.
Dr. Tankel is passionate about improving children's oral health and incorporating compassionate, evidence-based, patient-centered care during his patient interactions. He focuses on oral hygiene education and disease prevention, as well as conservative dentistry. Dr. Tankel also emphasizes strong interprofessional collaboration within the dental setting, often consulting with the Departments of Orthodontics, Endodontics, and Oral Surgery to provide the highest-quality care for his patients. Dr. Tankel showcases unique, tailored approaches to dentistry with his patients, often using a variety of behavioral management techniques, oral conscious sedation administration, and referrals to the local University Hospital for surgery under general anesthesia to make his patients feel safe and comfortable while they receive their dental care.
Dr. Tankel resides in Hoboken, New Jersey where he enjoys trying new restaurants, exploring the city, riding his Peloton Bike, and traveling. Dr. Tankel is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and is working towards his board certification in 2027.
