Dr. Shana Warren-Byers, DDS, MEd is currently the Interim Chair of Pediatric Dentistry, at Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry. She hails from Huntsville, Alabama and is a wife and proud mother of 4 beautiful adult daughters. Her passion for preparing the next generation of oral health providers began directly out of dental school as she became an instructor for dental assistants and dental hygienists. She later taught predental college students in an Introduction of Dentistry course. After 20 years of private practice, she returned to her current position is a faculty member at Meharry School of Dentistry for the last 6 years.
Dr. Byers is a passionate educator and mentor, who actively engages in both scholarly research and professional activity. She’s been a presenter on minimally invasive dental techniques for the general dentist at the Greater New York Dental Meeting and has been a peer reviewer for the poster and TechExpo submissions for the ADEA Annual Session. She is also slated to be an ADEA Poster Judge.
Over her tenure at Meharry School of Dentistry, she has created a partnership with the local Metro Action Commission’s Head Start Program, where 400+ children have received no-cost diagnostic and preventive dental services annually. She is currently a member of 10 committees supporting Meharry and by some by appointment of Metro Action Commission due to her commitment to community outreach aimed at improving access to oral health care for under resourced populations. She was also awarded the Dean’s Scholars scholarship for advanced leadership and educational development. Her goal is to always contribute to meaningful dental education, research, and community dental health.
