Dr. Andrea Ferreira Zandona is a tenured Professor and the Executive Associate Dean at The Ohio State University College of Dentistry. A native of Curitiba, Brazil, she earned her DDS from Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Paraná and completed both her master’s degree in Operative Dentistry and her PhD in Dental Sciences at Indiana University.
From 1998 to 2013, Dr. Zandona served on the faculty at Indiana University, directing the graduate residency program in Preventive Dentistry. She later joined the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry (2013–2018) as a faculty member in the Department of Operative Dentistry. From 2018 to 2023, she was Chair of the Comprehensive Care Department at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine.
Dr. Zandona is internationally recognized for her work in the prevention and management of dental caries and for her leadership in faculty development. She has authored numerous publications, served on multiple editorial boards, and contributed extensively as a reviewer for scientific dental journals. She is a long-standing contributor to the International Caries Detection and Assessment System (ICDAS) Foundation.
Her leadership roles include serving as President of the CAMBRA Coalition and the ADEA Cariology Section. She has consulted for the American Dental Association Council on Scientific Affairs and served as a counselor for the ADEA Leadership Institute Alumni Association. Dr. Zandona is an active member of several professional organizations, including AADOCR/IADR, ADEA, the Academy of Operative Dentistry, and the American Academy of Cariology, where she currently serves on the executive board. She also advises the European Organization for Caries Research and consults for industry partners such as Colgate‑Palmolive.
