Gisela V Bona DDS, MS, FAAPD. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a dedicated educator, clinician, and advocate for children’s oral health. She currently serves as a Professor and faculty member at UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry, where she teaches pediatric dentistry to both pre-doctoral dental students and post-doctoral pediatric dentistry residents.Serves as the Director of the Pediatric Honors Program. She serves as Faculty Ambassador for the American Dental Association (ADA), helping to foster professional leadership and engagement among dental students and early career dentists.
Dr. Bona is passionate about advancing pediatric oral health through education, prevention, and interdisciplinary care. Her clinical interests include infant oral health, prevention and management of dental trauma, and the comprehensive care of children with cleft lip and palate. She is actively involved in promoting dental trauma awareness and prevention at both national and international levels and currently serves as a Board Member of the International Association of Dental Traumatology (IADT).
In addition, Dr. Bona serves as President of the Greater Houston Hispanic Dental Association, where she works to promote professional collaboration, mentorship, and community engagement within the Hispanic dental community.
She is an active member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, International Association of Dental Traumatology, International Association of Pediatric Dentistry, Hispanic Dental Association.
Dr. Bona earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Universidad Autónoma de Honduras, followed by advanced training in pediatric dentistry at Universidad de Chile. She later completed a Master of Science degree and a Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine.
Fluent in English and Spanish, Dr. Bona is committed to providing culturally sensitive care and improving access to oral health education for diverse communities.
