420 - Dentin Dysplasia Type I: A Case Report

Dentin dysplasia type I (DD-I), also known as radicular dentin dysplasia, is a rare genetic disorder typically identified through radiographic findings. It is characterized by clinically normal-appearing crowns with radiographic evidence of short, conical, or absent roots and abnormal pulp morphology. Both primary and permanent dentitions are often affected, highlighting the importance of a multidisciplinary approach among dental professionals. Management of these patients is particularly complex due to compromised root structure, increased tooth mobility, challenges with endodontic treatment, and a heightened risk of premature tooth loss and periapical pathology. Early recognition of DD-I is essential in pediatric patients to guide appropriate treatment planning and prevent premature tooth loss.
This case report highlights the dental management of a 13-year-old patient presenting with generalized tooth mobility and radiographic evidence of short, blunted roots consistent with DD-I.
