417 - Treatment Objectives and Management of Amelogenesis Imperfecta in the Mixed Dentition: A Case Report

Abstract: Amelogenesis imperfecta (AI) is a genetically mediated developmental disorder that disrupts enamel formation in the absence of systemic disease and affects nearly all teeth in both the primary and permanent dentitions. Mutations in genes such as AMELX, ENAM, KLK4, MMP-20, and FAM83H produce distinct phenotypes that are classified into hypocalcified, hypomatured, hypoplastic, and hypomaturation-hypoplastic types, each with unique clinical and radiographic features. Children with AI commonly present with dental sensitivity, poor esthetics, accelerated or delayed eruption, rapid tooth wear, and malocclusions such as anterior open bite. The purpose of this poster is to review the diagnosis and classification of AI and to highlight key considerations for treatment planning during the mixed dentition using a case followed at the University of Michigan Pediatric Dental Clinic
