289 - Single Visit Minimally Invasive Restorations of Dental Fluorosis; Case Report

Introduction: A 12-year-old girl applied to the clinic with esthetic concerns related to white discolorations affecting all teeth. Clinical examination revealed widespread, poorly demarcated white opacities consistent with dental fluorosis, with the most pronounced lesions observed on the maxillary central and lateral incisors. These anterior white spots were the primary source of the patient’s esthetic dissatisfaction.

Case Report: At the initial appointment, standardized intraoral photographs were obtained by using digital camera (EOS R7, Canon Inc., Tokyo, Japan) equipped with a macro lens (Canon RF 100 mm), twin flashes (Canon 24-EX) and cross polarization filter (Cross polar, Spain). Following rubber dam isolation, microabrasion was performed on teeth 11, 12, 21, and 22 using 6,6% HCI acid slurry (Opalustre, Ultradent, USA). Immediately after microabrasion, resin infiltration (ICON, DMG, Germany) therapy was carried out in the same session. The enamel surfaces were etched with ICON Etch for 2 minutes, then rinsed, and air-dried. Subsequently, ICON Dry (99% ethanol) was applied. After complete drying, resin infiltrant was applied with gentle rubbing motions to the enamel surface, followed by light polymerization (SmartLite Pro, Dentsply Sirona, USA) according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Final polishing was performed using polishing rubbers (Enhance Flex, Dentsply Sirona, USA). The patient was recalled after two weeks to allow for enamel rehydration and gingival healing. In conclusion, dental fluorosis is a hypomineralization disorder that results in enamel white spot lesions. The combination of microabrasion and resin infiltration represents a minimally invasive and esthetically effective treatment option for managing fluorosis-related enamel discolorations.
