Abstract: Dental caries remain a prevalent global health issue, primarily driven by the activity of Streptococcus mutans, Strep Anginosus, and Fusobacterium nucelatum in the oral cavity. Polyols such as D-mannose, xylitol, and allulose have emerged as promising sugar substitutes with potential anti-cariogenic properties. This study evaluates the inhibitory effects of these polyols on S. mutans, S. anginosus, and Fusobacterium nucelatum growth using optical density measurements at various concentrations and time points. Comparative analysis reveals differential efficacy among the polyols, with xylitol and allulose demonstrating significant inhibition relative to D-mannose. These findings support the use of select polyols as dental preventatives and inform future research directions.
