381 - Management of First Permanent Molar Ectopic Eruption with Halterman Appliance

Abstract: Ectopic eruption of the first permanent molar is a developmental disturbance that can lead to root resorption of adjacent primary teeth and discrepancies in arch space. Early diagnosis and timely intervention are essential to prevent long-term complications and to promote proper alignment of the dental arch.

This presentation describes the dental management of an 8-year-old male presented with ectopic eruption of tooth #3 and #14, causing resorption of the distal root of tooth #A and #J. Panoramic bitewing radiographs confirmed the diagnosis. The treatment plan included placing a Halterman appliance to distalize tooth #3 and #14. Follow-up visits ensured proper appliance adjustments. After 4 months, the position of tooth #3 and #14 was corrected. This case highlights the efficacy of the Halterman appliance in managing ectopic first permanent molar eruption. It underscores the importance of individualized treatment planning and regular follow-up to ensure optimal outcomes.
