Abstract:

Purpose: This study assessed the oral health and nutrition education pediatricians receive during and after residency and their confidence in providing related counseling.

Methods: A cross-sectional survey was distributed to practicing primary care pediatricians across the United States through professional networks using peer-to-peer sharing. Eligible participants were clinicians with active membership in the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). The questionnaire assessed training experiences, confidence in counseling, adequacy of preparation for providing counseling, current counseling practices, and perceived barriers or areas for improvement. Planned analyses include t-tests and chi-square tests.

Conclusion: The results of this study are intended to help guide strategies to strengthen pediatric training and promote interdisciplinary collaboration between pediatricians and dental professionals, with the goal of improving the delivery of nutrition and oral health counseling.
